Bur Oak trees are trees that get very large and can live a long time! For me, the easiest way to recognize a Bur Oak Tree that is older is by the large width of the trunk, the width of the tree canopy as well as over all size, and the really large acorns they produce! They produce some of the largest acorns of all Oak trees.
My mother-in-law & father-in-law have an old Bur oak tree that is probably over 100 years old. The trunk is about 5ft wide and it’s around 75ft tall and easily 75ft wide at the top. It is a monster! It also has strong wood and makes a great shade tree that can live 400 years or longer!
